Hi, welcome to my auctions page! Here's a simple Q&A to let you know more about me, and my dealing policies.
1) WHO IS THE 80s READING WOOZARD?
My name is Nic and I have been collecting comics, gamebooks, trading cards and related memorabilia since 1991. Just like many other children of the 1980s-90s, I have made an effort in recent years to obtain the literature of my youth, and I am passing on my great finds to you.
2) WHY BUY FROM THE 80s READING WOOZARD?
I have been dealing on eBay (username: azzurri81) since 2001, and on Yahoo Auctions since 1999 (username: dragonball_n). With Yahoo Auctions Singapore's recent demise, I have taken the effort to set up an eBay store to keep the auction spirit alive.
I believe that I have a great selection of titles that will appeal to those of you who enjoyed reading in their youth in the 1980s-90s, with reasonable prices. In addition, I offer free local shipping to all addresses in Singapore, and an easy-to-reach discount scheme to reward buyers.
3) WHAT DO I SELL?
My goal is to keep the spirit of 1980s-90s literature alive, in particular to two genres that were well popular during the period: Comics & Gamebooks. To keep with the spirit of the store, I also try to have a decent selection of titles (e.g. Roald Dahls, Fantasy titles, RPGs) that were popular during the period.
For comics, I sell largely American titles pertaining to the superhero genre, like X-Men, Spider-man, Superman etc, but I do sell other stuff like Star Wars, G.I.JOE, independents like Cerebus, Sandman etc, and comics for younger readers like Archie and Disney titles. Where I find them, I also try to have a selection of European titles like Asterix, and comic strip books like Garfield.
For books, I sell gamebooks and various other genres like fantasy, and just about anything that catches my fancy. I have many gamebooks from popular series like Lone Wolf, Fighting Fantasy, Choose Your Own Adventure, Way of the Tiger, Blood Sword for sale so do enquire if you need anything. These gamebooks are not getting easy to find now and the books that I have put on sale are the result of very hard searching over the last few years.
As you may tell from my listings, I also sell other stuff like trading cards, toys, etc. These stuff aren't usually my specialty but are probably just stuff lying around my room that I have no use for. Please take them from me!
4) WHAT IS MY SHIPPING / MEET-UP POLICY?
All my auctions come with free local shipping to addresses in Singapore. I usually ship the next day or two after payment is received unless there are any special circumstances. If you are worried about damage, worry not as your item will be adequately protected. Comics are usually placed between two pieces of thick cardboard, and books will usually get the newspaper and plastic bags or cardboard protection. As a long-time online buyer, I know how important packaging is, and you can be rest assured that the item will be adequately protected. I would also like to categorically state that I have never and will never profit through inflated shipping costs. The shipping costs you pay simply go to any costs incurred in the shipping process like postage and packing material, which is usually just the envelope.
If preferred, I can do meet-ups strictly at either location / time: (1) Marine Vista, or (2) City Hall MRT (weekdays 1900 h).
5) WHAT IS MY GRADING POLICY?
For comics, although I am not a big fan of it, I follow the Overstreet grading system. Generally, I try to describe the faults of the comic, and the grade is really just there because people love grades. Generally, in my mind, my comics are classified in three categories: (1) Good (which is probably VF-NM, meant for collecting), (2) OK (maybe VG+ to FN+), and (3) Reading (VG and below, meant for people who just want them to read). The price of the comic will reflect which category it belongs to.
For books, the books I sell are usually used books, which are largely meant for reading, and all have probably been read before. If you are looking for books in immaculate condition, you probably won't get them from me. One thing that I can promise is that the books I sell are complete, and if there are any missing pages (which is still unlikely), they will not affect the story in any way. I sell books to read, not to admire on the shelf.
6) WHAT IS MY WANT LIST?
I am interested in a lot of stuff, and I am willing to buy or trade. Just send me an email at buhuaybah(at)yahoo.com with a list of what you have, and how much you want for them. A description of their condition would also be useful. I am looking for:
Comics: Just about any comic but especially: (1) titles from the 1980s downwards, (2) most superhero comics (X-Men, Spider-man, Batman etc), (3) Star Wars, (4) Star Comics, (5) Disney Comics, (6) Warner Bros Comics, and (7) Archie Comics.
Books: (1) All Gamebook titles (Lone Wolf, Blood Sword, Fighting Fantasy etc), (2) old RPGs especially TSR (Dungeons & Dragons memorabilia), and (3) TSR novels like Dragonlance and Ravenloft.
